Boomika (also spelled Bhoomika) is a 2021 Tamil-language horror thriller from India, written and directed by Rathindran R. Prasad. It is promoted as the first film to blend eco-conscious themes with the action-thriller genre. The cast includes Aishwarya Rajesh, Avantika Vandanapu, Vidhu, Madhuri Jain, and Pavel Navageethan. The movie premiered on Star Vijay on 22 August 2021, and began streaming internationally on Netflix the following day, 23 August 2021. Critics gave it average reviews, and its storyline shares similarities with Karthik Subbaraj’s film *Mercury*.
The plot follows a man in Nagapattinam who dies in a car crash while on the phone with his pregnant wife, moments after closing a construction deal. Meanwhile, in Ooty, psychologist Samyuktha “Sam” treats her four-year-old son Siddhu for a speech impediment. Her husband Gautham, a rising architect, has just secured a contract to refurbish an abandoned compound for a politician. To work on the project, the couple invites Gautham’s childhood friend Gayathri—a respected architect—and his sister Aditi to stay with them at the compound.
As the group settles in, Gayathri texts an old friend named Krishna, sending a selfie with Aditi. Krishna eerily replies that he will appear in the picture if they “take things more seriously.” Gautham then reveals that Krishna died in a car accident the previous night, and that the compound lacks satellite phone connectivity. Paranormal events escalate: Gayathri’s phone keeps beeping with new messages even after she removes its battery, and the power cuts out. When the group tries to flee, their car fails to start.
Back inside, Sam and Gayathri conclude the texts are not from Krishna but from a supernatural source. Gautham explains the compound was once a school abandoned over a decade ago after a girl’s death, known as the “Mount Roseyard School Mystery.” Searching for clues, they find magazines with articles about the mystery, but the relevant pages are missing. Aditi, terrified, attempts to escape but is attacked by wild dogs; Gautham and security guard Dharman rescue her, though all three are injured. While treating Aditi, the group discovers the torn pages in the former librarian’s house.
The pages reveal the girl, Boomika, was the librarian Ganesan’s autistic daughter. She was a talented artist and nature lover who spent her time painting in an abandoned flat
